Cooling Refrigerants of the Future. Stored in your air conditioner’s coils, refrigerants are liquids that cool and dehumidify your air. If we didn’t have refrigerants, we wouldn’t have air conditioning. For a long time, the most common AC refrigerant was R-22 (Freon), but in 2012 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the phase-out of R-22 through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, it will be illegal to produce R-22 due to its damage to the environment. Introducing R-410A To lessen environmental impacts, all Lennox® products are now engineered to work with the new R-410A AC refrigerant. R-410A is EPA-recognized and is free of chlorine, so it’s ozone-friendly. You can feel great about using this refrigerant in Fort Pierce because it’ll help make your system perform efficiently, reliably and quietly, and provide the same cool comfort in the warmer months. Additional Considerations If your AC or heat pump was built prior to 2010, it may not be R-410A-compatible. You may want to investigate upgrading your cooling system before R-22 is ultimately unavailable. The old refrigerant will become hard to find in the next few years, costing you more to run your system effectively. The Lennox products we offer at Nisair Air Conditioning work with R-410A, so you know we have an AC or heat pump that better meets your needs. You should also avoid”alternate refrigerants that claim to work in R-22 systems. These include R-407C, R-438A and R-422, all of which can actually compromise your system’s performance.
